In this article, you'll find all the key announcements for the end of 2020 and discover the main trends that will shape the world of enterprise software in 2021.
Microsoft
Office
The announcement was highly anticipated. The Redmond firm put an end to the suspense at the end of September: Microsoft will indeed offer a new version of its office suite Office with a perpetual license. Available in the second half of 2021, it concerns both Windows and Mac OS computers.
Contrary to the first announcements made, Office 2019 will not be the last model of its kind to be offered in "perpetual" version. However, we will have to wait a little longer before knowing all the details of the offer (final name, prices, options, new features, etc.).
The latest update of the Microsoft operating system is available since October 10th. This update called "20H2" mainly integrates new security patches and the new Settings module.
Windows
Note also that some users of Windows 10 have noted in parallel that Microsoft had taken advantage of the update of its Microsoft Edge browser to install, without notice, four web apps from the Office suite: Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
SAP
The software publisher is accelerating its move to the cloud in the context of the current health crisis. The German firm is indeed banking on the cloud to regain its growth. The announced end of SAP Business Suite support in 2025 is intended to push companies towards the SaaS model for their solutions. However, S/4HANA, the ERP offered by SAP, is still available in on-premise version for the moment.
